This is a fun little game. Unfortunately, the contest rules require that it not be an app you've already released elsewhere, and as you said, this is an app that's already on iOS, Google Play, et cetera.

Not only that, but in each of those platforms, it smells like an Angry Birds ripoff.

Oh, it's not like Angry Birds itself isn't a total ripoff. Be nice; we're all the small fry, and we should stick together. :)

Ports of existing games are allowed, you just can't have released or promoted the windows 8 version previously. Should have done the demo video on Windows 8 not an iphone :)

I thought I counted at least 30 games that were qualified.

Is it possible you're misunderstanding something about the length of the videos, Chris? The submission guidelines say "should be between 2 and 3 minutes" (emph. mine), not "must". To me that quite obviously is not a hard requirement that disqualifies an app whose video is 1:50 or 3:10.

Well all I did was look through the entrants to see if they actually had a video and had made it into the store, so it just depends on how hard-nosed they are about the rules. There is the slippery slope argument though... if they let one rule be flexible then why not others. There has already been 1 entrant that had the rules bent slightly for them so I would imagine given that precedent that there will be more than 11 in the games category which wouldn't be a bad thing. As you stated in your blog, I would rather get in the top ten by my merits rather than by default.
